Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 June 2026
The short version: Glance has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. Everything you configure stays on your device. We never collect, store, or sell your personal data.
Glance ("the app") is an always-on iPad dashboard. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.
Data we collect
None. Glance has no backend of its own and no user accounts. It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on any server we control — because there is no such server.
Data stored on your device
Your settings are saved locally on your iPad (in the system UserDefaults store)
and never leave the device except as part of the direct requests described below. This includes:
- Which scenes you've enabled and your timing preferences.
- Your chosen weather location.
- Your GitHub username and, optionally, a read-only access token you enter.
- The YouTube channel IDs you choose to follow.
The optional GitHub token is stored only on your device and is sent only to GitHub to fetch your pull requests. Deleting the app removes all of this data.
Photos & Apple Music access
- Photo Library — if you grant access, Glance reads photos from your library to display them on the dashboard. Photos are shown on-device only and are never uploaded, copied off the device, or shared with anyone.
- Apple Music / Now Playing — if you grant access, Glance reads the currently playing media so it can show the track on the dashboard. This information is used only for display and never leaves the device.
You can revoke either permission at any time in the iPad's Settings → Privacy & Security.
Network requests to third parties
To show live content, the app makes requests directly from your device to the following services. Glance is not affiliated with them, and each request is subject to that service's own privacy policy:
- Open-Meteo — weather, using the coordinates of the location you choose (no API key, no account).
- Hacker News (Firebase API) — front-page stories.
- YouTube / Google — public channel feeds and video thumbnails for the channels you add.
- GitHub — your open pull requests, using the username (and optional token) you provide.
As with any internet request, these services can see standard technical information such as your device's IP address. Glance does not add any identifiers or tracking of its own.
Analytics, tracking & advertising
Glance contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. Its App Store privacy report is "Data Not Collected."
Children's privacy
Glance does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
